"The Key" explores how fear impacts a protagonist, and her journey to change to open her mind.
Synopsis:
The Key explores how fear impacts a protagonist, and her journey to change to open her mind.
A young girl alone finds something to fear in every encounter, but when one frightening event leads her to solve the misunderstanding, her heart opens and she can experience the world as a bright and friendly place.
Creative Background:
This film is based on my experience as an immigrant to the US. I heard in the media about cultural conflicts between races in the US. This caused me to be very afraid of the outside world. In addition, because of my lack of knowledge of this new culture I did not understand things and interpreted them as dangerous. Like the girl in the story I became very defensive and closed off from exterior society, which blinded me to my true surroundings. Finally I was able to realize how much of my perception was based on misunderstandings. When I saw this I was able to open my mind and my life to the positive things in the world outside my home.
Fear of the unknown haunts the protagonist causing her to see dangers everywhere.
The girl is cautious, defensive, distrustful and obsessed with her own safety because she misunderstands the exterior society.
The boy is warm hearted and unaware of misunderstanding he causes because he takes the world at face value and...
...he does not read danger into every occurrence. He is oblivious to how he affects the protagonist and clumsily causes her fear.
The two vendors:
Happy and enthusiastic to promote their business and uncomprehending that their overly friendly behavior might be inappropriate.
